Our humble beginnings

In 2011 our founder, then a PhD researcher at Trinity College Dublin, began looking for a chemical inventory solution that would help to organise chemicals in laboratories. They shall be stored and identified with minimal hassle and administration. He collaborated with world-class software engineers to develop the Labcup software, an innovative platform designed from the ground up to provide a sustainable and long-term solution for researchers working in laboratories.

Once developed, the solution was initially implemented as a pilot at Trinity College Dublin and other Universities in Ireland and the UK, and presented at several safety forums in those countries. The software was met with enormous interest from industry professionals and, as expressions of interest in Labcup rolled in, our company (of the same name) was founded in 2014 in order to market and implement the software for our first batch of clients. Later, chemical industry specific features were added to the software and rolled out. These included bespoke features to serve specific client requests.

The key principles on which LabCup is built are: minimising administration, automating as much as possible and always building in new technology as soon as it becomes available, ensuring LabCup is always evolving and offering an ever-expanding list of functions and features to our customers. Among these features is Labcup’s unique ability to use photos to add chemicals, removing the need to type data – the number one issue with other inventory systems. The user-friendly interface is designed to minimise administration, with features such as drag-and-drop, calendar based asset booking and much more.

GS1 barcode reading and label printing combined with LabCup’s use of data parsed from automatically sourced SDSs, gives LabCup unique advantages and allows us to automate the use of as much safety information as possible in the background. Other unique features include the ability to generate digital floor plans to display live emergency and hazard information.

LabCup goes beyond just being a chemical inventory system. We are a development partner to our clients, providing long-term solutions spanning the entire life cycle of chemicals (from purchasing to waste disposal) and consumables. LabCup is not just a chemical inventory solution - it also facilitates asset management, increasing fiscal efficiency and reducing financial waste with shared laboratory integration.

The Labcup software has been presented at numerous conferences and professional safety forums around the world. It has drawn the attention of prestigious universities which we are proud to have as our clients, many with full scale rollout on their premises. LabCup software has quickly made a name for itself in both the industry and academic sectors, with clients in the US, UK, Germany, Canada, Belgium, Switzerland, Ireland, Africa, Asia and the Middle East.

What do our customers say about us? Not only do we receive consistently positive feedback from them, they also take the time to recommend us to others! We were delighted that one of them, Imperial College London, recently shared their experiences of using Labcup with the wider community by publishing a report about the software in ACS Chemical Health and Safety journal. It is also satisfying when we hear from customers that, although they may be moving on in their careers to a new institution, they want to make sure they keep their access to Labcup.
